A Índia é um país extenso onde há uma grande produção cultural, sendo assim, possui várias indústrias cinematográficas sendo a maior, Bollywood. Dentre algumas das outras indústrias estão:
Tollywood- É uma tradição de Tollygungue e os filmes bengalis costumar estar entre os favoritos nos Prêmios nacionais de cinema.
Sandalwood- Dedicado à produção de filmes na língua Kannada, seu primeiro filme foi em 1934, “Sati Sulochana”.
Cinema malaiala- Seus filmes são conhecidos pela sua natureza artística, sendo também, os mais conservadores da Índia.
Cinema marata- É uma das mais antigas indústrias cinematográficas da Índia, tendo o pai do cinema indiano, Dadasaheb Phalke como pioneiro dos filmes em marata.
Kollywood- É a terceira mais indústria cinematográfica da Índia, representando 1% do PIB do estado de Tâmil Nadu. Muitas das atrizes de Bollywood tiveram suas estréias em Kollywood.
Cinema telugo- É a segunda maior indústria cinematográfica da Índia e o seu primeiro filme lançado foi em 1931 sendo “Bhakta Prahlada”.
Bollywood é o nome dado para resumir os filmes da indústria cinematográfica indiana.A origem do nome vem de uma combinação entre Bombaim (antigo nome de Mumbai e centro do cinema hindi) e Hollywood. Onde no ano de 1913, Dadasaheb Phalke, foi o primeiro a fazer um filme completo, sendo considero o pai do cinema indiano. Ao contrário do que muitos pensam Bollywood é maior que a indústria de filmes americana, Hollywood, possuindo no ano de 2018 um crescimento de cerca de 12,2%.
As música tem um papel muito importante nessa indústria, fazendo parte desde o primeiro filme em áudio em 1931,cada filme possui cerca de 6 a 10 músicas. Sendo inspiração para filmes de Hollywood como “Moulin Rouge” e “Slumdog Milionaire” .
