Auroville é uma cidade localizada no sul da Índia fundada em 1968. Seu objetivo é ser uma cidade universal, onde homens e mulheres possam viver harmoniosamente acima de todos os credos, pensamentos políticos e nacionalidades.
A cidade foi fundada pela francesa Mirra Alfassa, também conhecida como “A mãe”. Ela sonhava com uma cidade em que o dinheiro se tornasse irrelevante devido ao trabalho coletivo e a troca de trabalho por serviços.
O Matrimandir (presente na foto acima), fica localizado na área de paz da cidade, sendo considerado a alma de Auroville. A estrutura é o símbolo da resposta do Divino à aspiração do homem à perfeição.
Porém, “A mãe” pretendia que não se transformasse em um símbolo religioso. Para Mirra Alfassa, as religiões causariam uma divisão da cidade e uma exclusão.

Auroville is a city located in southern India founded in 1968. Its aim is to be a universal city, where men and women can live harmoniously above all creeds, political thoughts and nationalities.
The city was founded by the French Mirra Alfassa, also known as “The mother”. She dreamed of a city in which money became irrelevant due to collective work and the exchange of work for services.
The Matrimandir (shown in the photo above), is located in the peace area of the city, being considered the soul of Auroville. The structure is the symbol of the Divine’s response to man’s aspiration for perfection.
However, “The mother” intended that it would not become a religious symbol. For Mirra Alfassa, religions would cause a division of the city and an exclusion.
